Dual Enrollment
Paving the Way from High School to Higher Education
What is dual enrollment?
The American River College (ARC) Dual Enrollment Program empowers Sacramento-area high school students to take college classes tuition-free through our two programs: CCAP and Non-CCAP.
Option 1: CCAP
College and Career Access Pathways (CCAP) dual enrollment is limited to students from specific districts and high school in the area who have formal agreements with ARC, including San Juan Unified, Twin Rivers Unified, Natomas Unified, and several charter schools. Contact your high school counselor to determine eligibility and explore class options.
CONSIDERATIONS:
- Earn high school and college credits simultaneously
- Free textbooks
- Embedded support from Student Success Coaches and Facilitators
- Classes primarily comprised of high school students
- Class Options are limited
- Available Fall and Spring terms
- Access to on-campus support services including tutoring
Option 2: NON-CCAP
Non-CCAP dual enrollment is open to all California high school students (grades 9-12 and adult school) or students who are not yet in high school but at least 14 years old.
CONSIDERATIONS:
- Class options are not limited if prerequisites met
- Available Fall, Spring, and Summer terms
- Access to on-campus support services including tutoring
- Non-CCAP students might not earn high school or college credits simultaneously. Options vary by high school.
Student Eligibility
- 9th Grade or 14 years old by first day of classes
- Approval from a parent/guardian and high school representatives required
- Student is academically prepared for advanced-level studies
Important Reminders
- High School students can take a maximum of 11 units each term across all Los Rios Colleges
- Tuition is waived for Dual Enrollment students in most circumstances. Other fees, including the Universal Transit Pass (UTP) fee, may be assessed.

Programs/Internships
What's an internship?
An internship is a professional learning experience that offers meaningful, practical work related to a student's field of study or career interest. An internship gives a student the opportunity for career exploration, development and to learn new skills.
Interns spend their time working on relevant projects, learning about the field, making industry connections, and developing skills. Internships sometimes even lead to full-time job offers. Summer internships are typically 40 hours a week over 8 to 12 weeks.
Internships are temporary, can be unpaid or paid, designed to provide student with practical work experience.
